"Satanic Verses" in the Quran

Peace

Recently, I am aware of the issue with regards of the "Satanic Verses" mentioned by Salman Rushdi in which he said of the verses attributed to the sacred Quran uttered by the Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h to get the polytheists of Mecca during that time to embrace Islam. According to Karen Armstrong's Muhmmad: A Prophet For Our Time, at first the verses mentioned whereby the intercession of the well-known idols worshipped during that time -Al-Laat, Al-'Uzza and Manaat - was accepted through the words of the Prophet and hence, pleasing the polytheists that they did not hesitate to embrace the religion.

The story was more or less described that Satan came and led the Prophet Muhammad in reciting those verses which attributed to the abovementioned idols, claiming that their intercession to God is accepted before the Prophet was rebuked by the archangel Gabriel (Jibrail) and hence, the correction of the verses which maintained the Oneness of God i.e. none has the right to be worshipped by God alone, disregarding anything which associates partners with Him.

The case narrated by Salman Rushdi, who seemed to be the original narrator, is then frequently used to disprove of Prophet Muhammad's Prophethood by many critics of Islam, mainly the non-Muslims, in a way of saying how the man Muhammad be a Prophet of God or be trusted when he is easily misguided by Satan, though Karen Armstrong provided a statement such narration is rejected by some as fabricated despite describing the incident.

However to end all doubt about the incident of the "Satanic Verses", which may be something new for Muslims who have not heard of the case, I would like to share with you an article in response of the narration;

Praise be to Allaah.

This is based on a false report. Ibn Katheer and others said:
There is no saheeh isnaad from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning this report, which says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) “recited Soorat al-Najm to the mushrikeen (the polytheists) until he reached the verses (interpretation of the meaning) ‘Have you then considered Al-Laat, and Al-‘Uzzaa (two idols of the pagan Arabs), And Manaat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?’ [al-Najm 53:19-20 – interpretation of the meaning]. Then the Shaytaan put words into the mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he said: ‘they are the exalted gharaneeq, whose intercession is to be hoped for.’ The kuffaar (disbelievers, which were the polytheists) were pleased with this praise of their three idols, so they prostrated.”
This report is undoubtedly false on a number of counts.

1. Its isnaad is very weak and is not saheeh.

2. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was infallible with regard to the conveying of his Message.

3. Even if this report was saheeh, for argument’s sake, the scholars have stated that it is to be understood as meaning that the Shaytaan caused the kuffaar to hear these words, not that he put them in the mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), so they heard them from him.

See Ibn Katheer’s refutation of this in his tafseer of Soorat al-Hajj 22:52.

Some of you may have been new to certain terminologies such as kuffar, isnad and saheeh. For such, I will clarify with you;

Kuffar is certainly referring to disbelievers
Isnad is basically related to the chain of narration(s)
Saheeh means authentic –which explains why there are books of Hadeeths titled Saheeh Bukhari and Saheeh Muslims due to the huge credibility of these books

As regards to how narrations are studied in Islam, though I know of it I must foremost confess that I am not a scholar of Hadeeth and hence do pardon me if I am not able to provide or describe in detail specifically as to how certain narrations are regarded as weak or strong or authentic (saheeh) in fear of misguiding readers.

In conclusion, we should all know where our resources come from. At times we do believe them as credible, though we know the author(s), books or positions of the articles yet forget certain details e.g. the page of a specific book etc. However, these references may actually shed a light on researchers and future generations in hopes of seeking truth.

And the bottom line is; the “Satanic Verses” incident is an unreliable source based on the abovementioned scholars. Should there be any mistakes, do feel free to correct me, for verily the goodness comes from God and bad and mistakes have only been mine.

The Heart and Soul

Peace be upon all

Here's some philosophy;

A heart is a conduct of man’s soul; like a reaction determines the action

Enjoy!

Disclamer: The abovementioned quote is by me, all Praise be to Allah for the inspiration. Should there be an err, please rectify me by all means. We may learn to instill a new belief and knowledge within our hearts to provide a garment for our souls.

Just a Stranger; just a Wanderer

Peace be upon all

Below is a Malay poem composed by me

Kian lama aku menunggu
Tertanya kadang kala di dalam hatiku
Siapakah sebenarnya diriku
Kemana akanku pergi selepas kehidupan?
Apakah yang ada lepas kematian?
Adakah kewujudanku mempunyai sebuah tujuan?

Yesterday by The Beatles

Yesterday
Sang by The Beatles

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh yesterday, came suddenly

Why she, had to go
I don't know she wouldn't say
I said, something wrong
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday

Why she, had to go I don't know
She wouldn't say
I said, something wrong
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday

A Reason for Connection

Peace

Below is an excerpt of a song that I would probably claim how it slightly reflects me:

So give me reason
To Prove me wrong
To wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Across this new divide
*
In every loss
In every lie
In every truth that you'd deny
And each regret
And each goodbye
Was a mistake too great to hide
And your voice was all I heard
That I get what I deserve
*
So give me reason
To prove me wrong
To wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Give me reason to fill this hole
Connect the space between
Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies
Across this new divide

Turn-a-round

Peace
Maybe I have figured how things will work out after wandering near and far for signs. I have more than five books to be read. Though not all related to each other, somehow I want to find myself a space for me in this world.

I held a book –my uncle’s copy of The International Jew and Protocols of the Elder Zion which I had borrowed from him almost for two years, utterly unread. Undeniably I had given a touch of a first few chapters. Yet, till to this day I’ve not entirely read the whole book.

And now, I am.

I am not finding fault in anyone. I do not want to assume and regard anyone as enemies or foes. God’s Prophecy will soon tell who the corrupters of this world are –I do not want to find a hobby in distrusting everyone.

I read the book last evening as I journeyed home. All I planned was to record how people have changed the world or civilisations whether for good or its contrary and intended to create connection in history... to find truth?

As I entered the elevator leading to the eight storey of my block, I asked myself... Is this worth it?

Where will this lead to? How can I live for the future? How can I earn a living through such a life?

At times, I question myself... at times, staring at my hands...

“Who am I?”

“Am I in the right path?”

“Why can I see?”

“Why can I feel?”

I can touch, I can see! God’s great for His Gifts.

But the questions remained unanswered.

I do not want a meaningless life; I want a purpose in my existence –why I am here. I wander about, only to find several doors of opportunities wherein full of lies... Attractive designs which at times attract people for the wrong reason and media which mislead others with false information... or aristocratic people influencing others in pursuing for the wrong things, not caring for the needs of the souls...

I too desire glory and wealth. I envy them as I tightly close my eyes and painfully walk away, knowing that I will soon be nobody, like someone’s quote “...a lost poem in a stranger’s coat".

And now I stand before it, the door which I am supposed to take. But... is that... the right way? Is it worth it?

“I’ve found the key for me to live
Passing by several doors wherein full of lies
Restraining my envy and greed for the glories within with my belief
Before me is now a door for my life
Half reluctant and half wanting to walk beyond, I ask myself if...
...this road is worth for a journey...”

I am sorry; I don’t to waste my life. We live only once... If we fail in this world, how can we come back to undo what is done? Help me... in this dilemma...

O Allah

Teach us Sincerity so that it dwells within us wherever we go and whomever we meet
Teach us Honesty so that no lies shall be uttered but the truth
Teach us Humility so that no Arrogance will burn in us
Teach us Patience so that we will succumb to neither lust nor anger
Teach us love so that neither Indifference nor Hatred lurks in us
Teach us Gratitude so that we will be grateful slaves of Yours

Blacken not our Hearts so that evildoers we shall not be
Harden not it so that Your Light and Guidance will penetrate through our soul
Guide us Your Way in attaining closeness to You and Your Paradise
Teach us the way of Righteousness

Show us Your Way
The Way which You bestow with Your Grace
Not those whom have incurred Your Wrath
Not those whom have led themselves astray

P.S: Thank you, Isa

Story of a Doubtful Man

How do you balance out life?
A portion where you have dreams to strive
Another where you ought to socialize
Another when you realize the world is full of lies
Another when you thought you’re called by destiny
When it is only your responsibility

Try screaming your distress out loud as though the world’s at fault
Wolves as friends accompany you in your vault
All saying you’re not the only miserable one
What if it is you whom they do not want?
Come back from somewhere, the world still full of lies
Everyone’s still pretending even as time flies

How many do you see friends who care
When abandoning you is all they dare?
So easy to befriend a jester
Who could create a thousand laughter
So tough to find true peers
Who are willing to share your tears

Distress when you’re busy
Ill when you’re weary

Every morning you wake up and do about your daily stuff
You come to school or office, only to realize you’ve been bluffed
People want you to be
Who they want you to be
Towards your job you try to be sincere
Yet their words pull the strings on you like a puppeteer

Even worst, when you try building a relationship
With a friend whom you wish for a mutual friendship
Yet it is unclear towards you what she feels
No doctors could prescribe for you suitable pills
You wish the bond between you and she will get closer, tighter and nearer to each other
In the end, you’re getting nowhere but you thought from her you’re getting further

You’ve a dream as you seek the true meaning of sincerity
You’ve a dream and you wonder if it is only another responsibility
It can’t be destiny when you desire a meaningful life
Living all you can to strive

You develop your own greatest fear
Because the understanding you desire
Often lead to misperception
You may want to SCREAM in agitation

Who will hear?
Even if they do, for you how many will be here?
Are you done shouting?
They say, are you boasting?

Walking by the roadside
Which path now should you abide?
How do you decide when you your mind knows no black or white?

Yours Truly

Justice

Peace be upon all

I shall today continue in a few lines of Attar's book (The Conference of the Birds). As said the title, they are regarding justice. Beforehand, allow me to mention a few words.

Love is indescribable
Its flow dwells in man’s flesh
A Love for a subject
Whether Something or Someone
He finds a new strength
Yearn to protect his Beloved
Dangerous trials placed before him

Justice aids him
In battle but not for his rights
But for others he stands and fights

This answers if we should create our own laws to prove our superiority over others. This world has no place for "I", for only God has such rightful proclamation; it isn't solely "You" but "Me" too.

When "you" and "I" meet, it is "WE" shall it be.

A bird questions the hoopoe about justice and loyalty

Another bird said: ‘What are loyalty
And justice, put beside such majesty?
God gave me boundless loyalty and I’ve
Not been unjust to any man alive –
What is the ghostly rank of those who own
Such qualities, before our sovereign’s throne?

The hoopoe answers him

The hoopoe said: ‘Salvation’s Lord is just,
And justice raises man above the dust;
To live with justice in your heart exceeds
A lifetime’s earnest prayer and pious deeds;
And tales of lavish generosity
Are less than one just act done secretly
(Though justice given in a public place
Suggests deceit beneath the smiling face).
The just man does not argue for his rights;
It is for others that he stands and fights.

I must admit how much I love the last two lines. The just DOES NOT argue for his rights; it is FOR OTHERS that he stands and fights.

The Conference of the Birds

Peace be upon all

It has been a while I’ve not updated my blog (not to mention fulfilling my promise). It is because my laptop broke down (and it’s still currently under maintenance). As promised, I shall now share few poems extracted by the book titled The Conference of the Birds. Before that, allow me to give a brief summary of the book –but be warned!

If it is possible, I would to do this out of sincerity. I remember on the night I wrote my previous post, I had a great night. No, no parties or whatsoever I have. However, it was rather blissful whereby I was given a chance for an opportunity. I joined a friend in his business, willing to overcome the rejection of others.

But as the saying goes, people change through time (I don’t know this comes from). I’m losing my optimism (little is spared for my Final Year Project). Plenty drown and eaten by piranhas… all as a result of crestfallen when someone’s world is locked with ONLY selected people.

I’m doing this to fulfill my promise… even if I do not have readers passing by here

Anyway, let us proceed with the brief synopsis;

Written by Farid Ud-Din Attar, The Conference of the Birds is probably a book consisting of poetries as dialogues and narratives throughout the book without chapters. It is with regards of birds of the world gathered in a conference as they hear the Hoopoe’s speech in seeking their ideal king, the Simorgh bird. Through the journey, the Hoopoe clarifies the doubts and calms the troubles and fears of the birds as they seek for the king.

It is not the latter they would find, for as like other narratives, obstacles and adversities are such that convey a message to the readers with regards of each inner-self and the causes and effects which rendered in to deep downfall. Below is an example where a man, shrouded in doubts in choosing (materialism or spirituality);

An indecisive bird complains

Another bird declared: ‘As you can see,
I lack the organs of virility;
Each moment I prefer a different tree –
I’m drunk, devout, the world’s, then (briefly) His;
Caught between “No, it isn’t”, “Yes, it is”.
The flesh will send me drinking, then I’ll find
The Praise of God awakening in my mind;
What should I do between these two extremes,

Imprisoned by conflicting needs and dreams?’

And the hoopoe answers him

The hoopoe said: ‘This troubles everyone;
What man is truly single-minded? None!
If all of us could boast a spotless mind,
Why should prophets mingle with mankind?
If it is love which prompts your fervent prayers,
A hundred kindnesses will calm your cares.
Life is an obstinate young colt – until
He’s broken in by your restraining will
He knows no peace; but you are indolent,
Stretched out beside the oven, warm, content.
Tears temper hearts; but living well’s a rust
That inch by inch reduces them to dust –
You’re just a eunuch pampering his needs;
Your Self’s grown gross, a dog that sleeps and feeds.

That’s all for tonight, folks
I truly hope I’ve fulfilled my promise
Ever since my laptop breaks down, I’ve loads to share
After all those events I had prior today,
This blog is yet to be considered for termination

How could a man guides others…
When even he needs guidance?

I’ve not forgotten the reason why I create this blog

The Self; our Dog, our Darkness

Peace be upon all

It’s time for a change. As a matter of fact, I’m still struggling in the battle of my Self, the untamed dog which yearns for attention. Its lure seeks sympathy as its anguish cries of pain and lack of needs calls the Heart by its side.

At the same time, the Self is as good as having branches of goals sprouting from the Tree of Desires; man yearns for this and that and hence he loses focus. At a time, he seeks for his materialistic needs (and wants) while at another time, he yearns for spiritual guidance. Unfortunately, the success and glory possessed by others render him into materialism wants. Fortunately, by the Grace and Love of Almighty God, He calls His poor slave for repentance and increase his spiritual needs.

The Heart is weak without a tinge of gratitude and submission to beyond worldly possessions
Patience is achievable through Acceptance

Spoiler: I will soon be sharing a couple of poems written by Farid Ud-Din Attar in his book The Conference of the Birds very soon... Stay put; or never

Death-day Party

Peace be upon all

I’ve a bad news for everyone… or maybe a good one depending how you’re going to swallow the following news. As usual, I am always “borrowing” excerpts from yahoo.com.sg –the people there deserve all the credits for their hard works in making research thoroughly.

Ok, allow me to proceed with the bad (or good) news; WE’RE GOING TO DIE! WOO HOO!

I know I am being sarcastic, I know, I know. It’s alright if any of you are angry with me –it’s humans’ nature, isn’t it? Or have you forgotten it is such emotion that rushes foolish men to hatred and enmity? Or is Izuddin here speaking “yeah, yeah… He’s always like that… Blah… Blah… Blah…”?

Let’s puncture an emotional fatal hole in your hearts; have you solved all your personal problems yet? If you haven’t, how do you expect for the best of this world? You can’t save a damn soul when yours is not even checked for a diagnosis yet!

Don’t get what I mean?

HERE IT GOES! It is beased on an article which can be found here, http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20090127/tts-us-warming-environment-climate-972e412.html

Global warming 'irreversible' for next 1000 years: study

WASHINGTON (AFP) - - Climate change is "largely irreversible" for the next 1,000 years even if carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions could be abruptly halted, according to a new study led by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The study's authors said there was "no going back" after the report showed that changes in surface temperature, rainfall and sea level are "largely irreversible for more than 1,000 years after CO2 emissions are completely stopped."

NOAA senior scientist Susan Solomon said the study, published in this week's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal, showed that current human choices on carbon dioxide emissions are set to "irreversibly change the planet."

Researchers examined the consequences of CO2 building up beyond present-day concentrations of 385 parts per million, and then completely stopping emissions after the peak. Before the industrial age CO2 in Earth's atmosphere amounted to only 280 parts per million.

The study found that CO2 levels are irreversibly impacting climate change, which will contribute to global sea level rise and rainfall changes in certain regions.
The authors emphasized that increases in CO2 that occur from 2000 to 2100 are set to "lock in" a sea level rise over the next 1,000 years.

Rising sea levels would cause "irreversible commitments to future changes in the geography of the Earth, since many coastal and island features would ultimately become submerged," the study said.

Decreases in rainfall that last for centuries can be expected to have a range of impacts, said the authors. Regional impacts include -- but are not limited to -- decreased human water supplies, increased fire frequency, ecosystem change and expanded deserts.

Are you done reading? Aye, aye, we’re all going to die. Anyway, the world’s already coming to a brutal end with wars, poverties and intangible destructions of humans’ inner-self (e.g. greed, enmity, hatred, materialism) all started by us.

Among you are those complained “histories are boring”, “I hate reading books”, “going to school is tedious big time”, “just let the authority do the work for us” and plenty of all other excuses you all gave so that you can sit back and relax as you grab a fistful popcorns and swallow them whole in cinemas. So, where goes all the credits to the scientists and teachers who have been endlessly teaching us so that they could impart their knowledge upon us?

Now the scientists realize we’re out of oxygen with all the carbon dioxide coming and knocking in all nations’ doors. Won’t you feel regret for not having interest in gaining knowledge so as to create a better future of this world? Shouldn’t we do something, at least? It’s time to go back to school and our brains wet instead of dry because of our ignorance and arrogance.

Am I being too straightforward? Just say that I’m rude, it’s alright. Even philosophers were to give you poems for you to grasp a better understanding of the world, among you are those who will reject such parables. It’s your fault… our faults!

Even as I said so, I'll try to change, Insya'Allah
Pray for me, please
